Handbuilding for Teens, 3 week series

$175.00

Wednesday afternoons

3pm to 6pm

August 12th, 19th, and 26th

No experience necessary! Come play with clay with me and together we’ll create both functional and sculptural work using hand building techniques. We will explore pinch pots, slab building, coil building, how to attach a foot or handle, carving and other textural techniques, as well as underglaze, glaze, and oxide washes. You will leave this class knowing how to create real ceramic bowls, mugs, and sculptures that show your unique style and will last for many years.

Class 1: Learn about pinching, coiling, and slab building techniques and create something that you’re excited about. We’ll discuss ideas and I’ll help you strategize how to create them in ceramics.

Class 2: We will continue building and discuss surface decoration such as carving, underglazes, and oxide washes. You’ll decide on surface decoration and your pieces will be bisque fired before the next class.

Class 3: During the final class of our series, we will add underglaze or an oxide wash and wax the bottoms of our pieces for glaze firing. Pieces will be available for pick up at Mud Lake after the glaze firing.
